Germany Education System

The education system in Germany is the responsibility of the individual state governments. Thus, German universities and institutes are run by the individual federal states.

There are mainly two types of institutions of higher education in Germany:
1. Universities (including Universities of Technology, abbr. TU)
2. Universities of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschulen, abbr. FH)

1 Bachelors Degree – Duration 3 to 4 years
2 Masters Degree – Duration 1.5 to 2 years
3 PhD (Doctoral Degree) – Duration minimum 3 years

Cost of Study in Germany

Tuition Fees – Education in Germany is subsidized by the state. Most of the institutions charge no or very little tuition fees to the tune of 1000 Euro per year. Thus, in Germany every student gets a scholarship. For certain special courses you may need to pay higher fees. Tuition Fees can range from zero Euro to 20,000 Euro per year.

Living Cost - It would be approx Euro 9,000 per year.

Entry Requirements

Every university / study programme has its own set of criteria for admitting students. Students need to meet both a sufficient level of English language proficiency and the minimum academic requirements before they can be admitted to a Germany university. Postgraduate applicants may need GMAT/GRE scores. There are special requirements for bachelors programme eligibility.
